"Party girl- put the cup down!"

August 4th, 2008 at 07:33 pm

Well,
You have learned my secret. I am a recovering party girl. More like a party girl grown up. During my early/mid twenties, I lived by the rule that you are only young once; better get it out of your system now.

Now I am older and less interested in the partying, but my old ways still come out to party occasionally.

But today I think I crossed the border from party-girl slowdown, to party-girl gone. I turned down an invitation to go to a high school friends wedding. The wedding is across the country and in a month. The invitation kind of came out of left field as we only recently reconnected and its 5 weeks away.

But it was an opportunity to meet up with all my high school friends and just spend the whole weekend partying.
I went back and forth but ultimately said I can’t go. I just have way too many cross country trips coming up in the next 6 months, plus my own wedding.

I thought "hey, it's only a $300 plane ticket then everything is free to me all weekend (my friends take good care of me). And it's a once in a lifetime event"(actually, I think divorce is in this couple's future but I doubt I would go/get invited to the next wedding.)

But considering I am not yet sure how I will pay for the events I have committed to, and my own wedding is going on a credit card for a few months...I can just see this as being a trip that tips the scales and leads me into credit card debt and way off my path to achieving all those goals listed on the left-hand side.

It's too bad, it would have been fun to have one last 'girls trip' before I got married. But I have had plenty of those.

I'm the same way. I never rushed myself to grow up or stop partying; I guess I figured if I was going to be one of those people who kept it up their whole life, so be it. But I've just naturally started to lose interest in it. I still love to socialize, but not necessarily in loud bars, big parties, till the early morning, or till I get sick. Now I much prefer having 10-20 folks over to my condo for some wine, homemade treats and Wii. Smile

Sounds pretty mature and logical to me. Are you ready for the new you?

I saw the red sox and Yankees this weekend. Ok, the paw sox and scranton Yankees. 9,000 people and tickets cost $6 for adults, $4 for children, and free parking. My three year old son was sitting next to his three year old friend explaining who everyone was. There's big papi, beckett's pitching and Jason varitek is catching. He was also clapping when either team hit the ball. Yes even the Yankees. He got to run the bases after the game too.

    I thought you might enjoy.

awww... Baseball boy's best friend was on the Paw sox earlier this season. Then he was sent to Ft. Myers for elbow surgery. He's living the life. $15,000 a month. Ka-Ching!

My party stage didn't last long at all. I went to college, partied for about a year, then decided BF was too important to me to risk losing him over some beer.

Some of the best memories I have with my friends were either partying - or the complete opposite, being completely sober and just laughing hysterically over something completely stupid. I think everyone gets out of that stage at their own rate... some people just push it to the extreme (like the people I graduated with, who still go home to party with high school kids... yea....)

lol, i am a closet party-girl. i dont drink or do drugs or go out at all normally, but i go to music festivals a couple of times a year, and let loose for a day. Big Grin it's quite good fun, even though the day ends up costing about $200 (including the ticket). it is something to look forward to when you're trudging through work, but doesn't really take over your life like going out every weekend does for my friends from school.

Look, I am in my 60's and I am still a party girl. I won first prize in the Halloween costume party . Then I went to a 50's party and I won first prize in the dance contest. You are never too old to party! (I did NOT party in my teens and twenties, so I am making up for it)
