my stupid $800 computer

September 24th, 2008 at 10:59 pm

ok, I am on my new computer.

I dont know why my computer was $800. oh yes I do.

It was $650. The cheapest in the store was $500 but the sales guy said it wont last a year. This model was the next cheapest price. But then I had to pay $150 for them to wipe it clean from unwanted programs and install security stuff. Then taxes. And my printer is obsolete and is not compatible with this laptop....all came to $830.00.

New question...old computer had 2005 microsoft word. We purchased Microsoft office word 2007-upgraded and installed it on old computer...bringing old windows into the current version.
-we are trying to install word on this computer using the upgraded disk but it asks for a 25 digit product key that we thought we found on the bottom of the computer...but it is 'invalid'. Any ideas?

...call the helpdesk! Make sure you have all your documents in front of you, they'll tell you where to look and what to input...

I think it's the product key for the Windows Word/Office application?

I think they got you to over-pay for a new computer. Not that that's a huge deal now.

If you need any future PC help, please feel free to ask. I can try to help find you the best deals possible.

They ripped you off on the $150 security thing. You could have done that yourself. And I think he was lying about the $500 not lasting a year. Computers are pretty resilient these days.

Indeed, mine is a solid Lenovo, and shopping around, I got it new at the time for $400. (I've had reservations about it when they bought IBM's Thinkpads, but having had one myself, I am now quite pleased that they've maintained their general build quality. I also love the tactile response of keyboard; something that I can't say for all laptops. Yes, I am picky like that.)
