How can anybody DISLIKE the Cosby Show??

January 11th, 2009 at 01:41 am

I grew up on the Cosby show. I have fond memories of watching the show as a family with my mom and dad. We all laughed. There was something for everyone.

I watch the show now occasionally if I have time and there is nothing else on. Lately there has been nothing else on.

Well, come to find out BB doesnt like the Cosby Show! We are together 9 years and I discover this now! How can you not like the show?? He thinks the show is stupid and is still burned out on Bill Cosby from all those jello commercials from like- 15 years ago.

I just made BB turn off football and watch 1 episode with me (it was a good one) to give it a try. He laughed. I think it was less painful than he thought it would be. Not a fan, but I'm working on him!

lol, it's funny because I am watching the show right now on Tvland. I think it's great because it shows family values

Is it the episode where the husbands give their wives a cheap gift to determine who is the most romantic? That's the one we watched.

I just watched that one and now Theo has moved in with his girlfriend and decided not to tell his parents

I like it!! Crazy that someone wouldn't like it.

gamecock43, I LOVE that episode. It's my very favorite of the whole series.

That being said, sometimes Bill Cosby does kind of get on my nerves. I grew up on The Cosby Show too, but watching it as an adult, I sometimes get a little irritated with how much Bill Cosby seemed to have drunk his own Kool-Aid, if you know what I mean. And don't even get me started on Olivia...

The episodes that are more family-based are still a lot of fun, though. I want to be Clair Huxtable when I grow up!

One of the strangest, yet most memorable episodes of the Cosby Show, for me at least, was when the men all gave 'birth'. LOL! If I remember correctly, Bill 'gave birth' to a huge sub sandwich.

I grew up on the Cosby Show, and then of course the spin-off when Denise (I think) went off to college.

I really, really liked THE COSBY SHOW, but, I have to say that I LOVED A Different World. (the spin-off when Denise went to college, albeit for one year lol)

C'mon nothing beat(s) Dwayne Wayne and Ms. Thing, aka Whitley. :-)

Ah yes, Dwayne Wayne and Whitley. Big Grin I wonder whatever happened to those actors?

lol - not really in the same vein, but BF and I both don't really like rap music - except i LOVE dizzee rascal - i have since school lol. it's something about his voice, he is very different. anyway so BF just doesn't like ANY rap, and we went to a music festival awhile ago where I made him come with me to see DR (i'd seen him 8 months before at another music festival when BF was in America, but wanted to see him again) and now BF has admitted that he thinks he may just like DR too Smile

pearlieq, it's funny you mention the Olivia episodes. That's when the show jumped the shark IMO.

I agree once Olivia was added then that was it

I loved that show too, and also agree it went downhill after Olivia was added. My fave episode is the one where Theo thinks he can live on his own so his family turn the whole house into a real-life experience...apartment rental, restaurant, etc.

yup I smile at each episode you guys mentioned. I also dont care for Olivia and thought it was just me. But it was cute when Olivia padded her shoes and Cliff thought she was growing overnight and would be 10 ft tall by Christmas. LOL.

I'm so glad I'm not alone on the Olivia issue!

My second favorite is the For Men Only episode. I loved the part at the community center with the guy who could sing and I loved the grandpa getting hooked on the video game.

They really did do some great stuff...

Sounds like that How I Met Your Mother show when the girlfriend doesn't like Star Wars. As if anyone wouldn't like star wars.

Koppur, I also loved the one you mentioned. How about the one where the family sings that song to the grandparents(?), where Rudy sings "BAAAAAAAAABY, BAAAAAABY!" Funny.

Rudy was cute, but Olivia was annoying.

Perhaps this begs the question: What sitcom does everyone else seem to like that you can't stand?
    My choice is easily MASH.

The littlest girl just had a baby right?!!?

Hands down for me that would be Everybody Loves Raymond. Can't stand it--sets my teeth on edge! I never understood what people liked so much about it.

    choystercash:

Are you talking about the one who played Rudy? That might be possible. I don't think Raven Simone (the one who played Olivia) had a baby, but maybe I'm not as up on my celebrity gossip as I could be, lol!

no- denise (lisa bennett) she just had a baby girl with her hawiian husband and they named the girl like, 5 different hawiian names.

I never cared one way or the other about the Cosby show (grew up without TV and came across it too late), but recently NT DVRed a few episodes and I ended up being more entertained than I expected. NT and AS are both HUGE Cosby fans and I overheard them saying how they didn't like Olivia as much as the rest of the cast, so it must be universal.

Superpopular shows I actually tried to watch and couldn't stand: Everybody Loves Raymond, Ally McBeal, Northern Exposure, the original 90210 (although I had a love-hate relationship with 90210 and still watched it quite a bit to laugh at the stupid characters and cringe at the lame plot developments).

  26. lizajane Says:

I liked Cosby show, although I didn't watch it faithfully.

Sorry, merch & whitestripe, I never liked Star Wars. I know, shame on me.

I'm with ceejay on Ally McBeal - couldn't stand it. But I just LOVE Everybody Loves Raymond, so I guess I'm going against the grain there too!

These aren't sitcoms, but the more current popular ones that I don't like and won't watch are all the Survivor, Lost, Fear Factor, Amazing Race, etc, etc. They bore me to tears, but I know they are wildly popular.

We never watched the Cosby show, must have been something else on that night. Don't know who Olivia is. I think we outgrow shows. I thought Friends was wildly funny and great for a while, but can't stand watching it now. I really liked Seinfeld, but same thing, can't watch it now. I like Everybody Loves Raymond because it is easy to relate, but I don't seek it out. We just discovered Scrubs on at 5:30 reruns and we think that is pretty funny.

We enjoyed watching Fear Factor with the girls, but did not even know it was still on. Never watched Survivor or Amazing race.

My current Favs: Lost, Fringe, Biggest Loser, Big Love, Friday Night Lights, Intervention, 24, and the only sitcom we watch is The Office which was not that funny this week, am I outgrowing it? Looking forward to the Closer. Used to watch House, but third season the grouchy doctor got old. Waiting for Dexter 3rd season to come out on DVD so I can rent it.
