Trying to keep life from falling apart, trying to become a person to be proud of.
About Me
29 yr old female trying to keep it together. I call my financial life a work in progress because though I have always had frugal inclinations I only recently started on an informal financial education with an end goal to make my money work for me! Of course I can be weak. Thai food, traveling, self-justification and laziness eat away at my savings. But I am getting there. I think. I used to be very jealous of the Jones' but now realize that they are broke and stressed so I prefer my own progress and accomplishments. My life may not be flashy but I have seen the consequences of a high-end lifestyle. I count myself lucky to be alive and aware in these economic times because I have learned so much and believe that in the long run I will come out farther ahead from a little suffering now. As long as I am not regressing, then I am pleased.
Fun fact to help navigate my posts: BB = Baseball Boy. My husband.

See if you can sell it at Gamestop (I think that is the name). They might be able to use it for parts. I would think that anything you can get for it is better than just junking it.
Hmm.... Overheating is a strong possibility. Incidentally, that's what causes RRoD, but it doesn't have to red ring.
If your hubby is feeling adventurous, find a way to open it up, take a vacuum cleaner, and suck up any dust that might be in there.
You'll also want to make sure that the Xbox has plenty of space where the heat can escape. Stuffing it in a small cabinet, under a pile of DVDs is not a good idea.
You'll also want to make sure the power supply gets plenty of space as well. Believe it or not, but I've heard of hardware failure simply because the power supply overheated.
That or simply sell it. (Or, if you're a spendy guy, you trade it in for a new 360 Elite!)
If no one else takes it, buymytronics.com will pay a pittance for it. I don't know what your exact system or accessories are, but I guessed and got an estimate of $11.36. You have to pay shipping, but they will reimburse you $5, so as long as you ship cheap, you should come out on top.
I sold my broken iPods to them, so I know they do pay (I was leery of paying to ship my stuff to them and then never hear anything, but they're on the level.)
Not sure if it's worth it to you...I'm of the opinion if I can recycle AND get a couple bucks, it's worth the effort.
I put our old one on craigslist and got a bunch of response. I'd try the cleaning out as suggested, and see if it helps, but even a malfunctioning one will get a little money. There are people out there who will fix them and then list them on ebay.

If so, I would contact Microsoft and they should be able to fix it for free.
If not, and you want to get rid of it, I would try eBay or GameStop.
