odds and ends

September 16th, 2008 at 08:30 pm

Well, American financial crisis aside, I am trying to just live life and be smart as I do it.

EBay is doing pretty well. BB's video game sold for more than we expected...but a new person to eBay with poor feedback won it 2 days ago- and has not paid for it. Disappointing. It's such a hassle to file an unpaid claim.

All other low priced items have bids on them. No expensive items have bids on them. Not much surprise there.

My camera battery ran out of charge...and I left the battery charger in Texas, so I ordered another off eBay...auction ends in another day. So my eBay listings are on hold till it arrives.

That's about it. I have spent the last 2 days working on a spreadsheet to detail exactly the cost of this wedding...it's just excessive. Frustrating. I really wish I had never agreed to this thing. I know people 'say' you can 'cut' but...

Since it's an out of town wedding, we are paying for many things that in town weddings don't pay for- like hotels and transportation. And every vendor charges 'extra' fees like 'service charges', 'save the date' ex...so if you cut back on the amount or type of service you want, it's really only taking a small percentage off the bill. I cut back my flowers by 50% and it only eliminated $150 off a $600 bill. Frustrating. I don’t want to talk about it. I am so ashamed of myself for spending this much money but feel stuck.

I try to be optimistic and think maybe it's because I am just writing checks, checks, and checks and have nothing to show for it. Maybe the day after our wedding I will say it was all worth it. Maybe. I hope.

I really do not know what to say about your wedding expenses so far. If you cannot change your plans, try to enjoy the planning as much as you can otherwise, you might override your happy thoughts with regrets which is not going to make things better.

Today's SA article on "You can be too frugal" might give you a lighthearted boost on this issue.

Thanks for the upbeat info! I'm glad the dow was up...though I cant imagine it going any more down...its kind of gotta go up. And I'm not looking for positivity regarding this wedding fiasco. Its ridiculous. I made it ridiculous and now I gotta enjoy it. At this point...there better be no divorce in my future.

The dow did tyest 10700 twice today and didn't break below it. I have resistance of the dow at 10760. So, I expect another test later this week.

As for your wedding, you may of spent to much but it is what it is. Try to cut as much as you can before and then enjoy it. Again it is waht it is and a lot of decisions were made probably before you focused on your finances so much.

I guess my advice is don't beat yourself up to much, enjoy the moment, and move forward.

I agree with the others... enjoy your wedding, you can't help what you've already committed to. Keep in mind that you agreed to all the expenses because you thought they'd make your wedding better in some sense, so hopefully they will!

And just let BB know, you've spent too much on the wedding to pay for a divorce! Smile

This is actually referring to your previous post on the ebay bidder you think might be a "deadbeat". I used to sell a lot on ebay and started posting in my auctions that I would not accept bids from users with no feedback or high feedback ratings. This didn't stop these people from bidding of course, but I then had a reason the cancel their bids and block them from bidding. You can find out how to do this here under "sell"

Oops! I wrote high feedback ratings - I meant high negative feedback ratings. Also if you can't get the page by copying and pasting the address just go to the site map that should be on the ebay page on the top right hand side.

Thanks! Actually the person emailed me yesterday saying she will pay today...no payment yet...but glad to have heard from them.
